EasyHelp/Web is not an executable program as such. It is a Word template that can be used as a document template or as a global add-in. The features of EasyHelp/Web are accessed via buttons on extra toolbars that appear when you have activated the EasyHelp/Web template.

Some people who are new to using Microsoft Word expect to see an icon that will execute the EasyHelp/Web program, this is not how EasyHelp/Web works, because it can only be used from within Word.

Document Templates

Word templates have the file extension of .DOT and are stored in the 'Word user templates folder' on your computer.

By default most new documents have a template called NORMAL.DOT attached to them. However, if you use the Word menu (rather than the icon on the toolbar) when creating new documents, you can choose which template to use.

  • In Word 6 & 7 use File | New and choose EasyHelp/Web for the document template.
  • In Word 97 use Tools | Templates & Add-ins and choose EasyHelp/Web for the document template.

You will notice that all the EasyHelp/Web examples all have the EASYHELP.DOT template file attached. Check this out by using the menu command described above.

Global Add-ins

You can also use EasyHelp/Web as a 'global addin'. You need to check out the Word documentation on this to see if this would suit the way you want to work but, most people use EasyHelp/Web as a document template.

Note

Refer to the Microsoft Word online Help for more information on templates and add-ins.
