Are your using long paths and filenames? HCP and FIXRTF are DOS programs and so do not understand long paths and filenames. Keep these to the normal DOS conventions and you should be OK.

Help Compiler Problems

There are many bugs with Word 97 RTF that MS have only fixed with the Windows 95 version of the Help compiler 4.02 (HCRTF and HCW)

There is a program included in EasyHelp/Web that can fix the RTF created by Word 97 but if this still does not work then it indicates that you have you got embedded pictures in your document?

You MUST remove them as the Word 97 RTF is very buggy with embedded pictures.

Windows 95 Compiler

This is available in the boxed version of EasyHelp/Web and the compiler engine (HCRTF) is available to registered users of EasyHelp/Web from our FTP site.

BEWARE!! If you use this compiler *all* your users will have too have Windows 95 as Help files created with this compiler do not work on Windows 3.1

IF you use the 95 compiler you turn off RTF fixing as below. Change the statement in EASYHELP.INI

[Help Format]

FixWord97Rtf=no

Note. This setting *must* be set to yes if you use HCP.EXE as Microsoft will not be fixing the problem with their Windows 3.1 compiler!!!

The only 32 compiler that works is HCRTF 4.02 or greater Windows 95/NT 32 bit Help compiler (HCRTF.EXE) can be found at:

http://www.eonsolutions.co.uk/files/hcrtf.zip

HCRTF is fine; but until the whole World has moved over to NT or Windows 95 it is totally useless. You have to use HCP if you want your users to be able to read your Help files on their Windows systems.

Note. If you run HCRTF.EXE without passing any parameters it requires other components that we only included with the full version of EasyHelp/Web or other MS programming products.
