Heading Numbering - Help Authoring Site
Automatic heading numbering does not work in a help file because the Microsoft Help compiler cannot deal with it. (Heading numbering does not look very good online either but that is no excuse for Microsoft failing to cater for it!)
We often do authoring projects ourselves where the client insists on heading numbers and we use a specially written utility to convert the auto heading numbering into 'real numbers' before the Build step.
We have now built this feature into EasyHelp/Web. Here is how to do it:
The Help compiler cannot process auto numbered headings properly, and they are ignored when generating HTML. However, EasyHelp/Web can automatically overcome these problems by fixing the heading numbers at process time.

Note. Numbered headings not normally recommended when producing online information because the numbers tend to confuse the readers. If you must use them, make sure you have set the option in EASYHELP.INI
